About Us

In the Community

Delta Dental of Massachusetts, headquartered in Charlestown, MA, is committed to improving oral health and making our Commonwealth a better place. In 2018 alone, we worked with more than 50 community organizations. Because the needs are diverse, the organizations we support with our funds and employee volunteer hours are many and multifaceted.  We also work to ensure that oral health is included in health care discussions across the state and that families understand the connection between oral health and economic opportunity.

Improving the Oral Health of All...

...that is the mission of Delta Dental. As a leading advocate for prevention and wellness, we use our corporate giving grants to further our mission, strengthen communities, support access to quality and affordable care and ultimately, help individuals stay healthy. Here are some highlights of our recent work in the community.

Cultivating Future Leaders

The Charlestown Boys and Girls Club is a community touchpoint for kids in elementary school through high school. We started our involvement with the Club by underwriting a summer camp week for teens. We then added a scholarship for graduating seniors, invited high school juniors and seniors to our offices for a job shadow day.  During Mission Month, a time when Delta Dental employees spend time as volunteers in the community, our staff brought science fair fun to the Charlestown Club for children of neighboring elementary schools, including the Harvard Kent School, where we also volunteer at the annual family health fair. Our employees have also enjoyed judging debate matches for the Boston Debate League. This organization gives middle and high school students across Boston practice in critical thinking and effective communications. Over the summer, we welcome a high school student to our offices through the Mayor's Summer Intern program, managed by the Private Industry Council. Through this program, stellar high school students from a variety of Boston’s public high schools have had an opportunity to learn about the many jobs available with a dental insurance company. We are proud to help these organizations advance their work of fostering engaged, health-literate children who will one day be leaders in our host neighborhood, our city and our state.

Supporting Strong Families

Delta Dental employees assemble and donate backpacks in the fall and donate toys during the holidays to local organizations that serve at-risk families living in emergency shelters in neighboring towns. Delta Dental is honored to support Housing Families, Big Sisters of Greater Boston, and many more. We also support organizations like Operation A.B.L.E., Samaritans Youth Advocacy Foundation, Goodwill Industries, Brookview House and Boston Medical Center's (BMC) addiction recovery programs. These organizations are helping families stay strong in the face of difficult life challenges.

Food for Health

Our employees are active in local organizations focused on getting healthy food to needy families. This includes work with Community Servings, the agency that pioneered delivery of medically-tailored meals to chronically-ill homebound neighbors in Greater Boston. For these neighbors and their families, a Community Servings meal is truly a life saver. During our Mission Month, Delta Dental employees roll up their sleeves and join other caring and generous volunteers at the Community Servings kitchens to prepare meals. Our teams also volunteer with the Greater Boston Food Bank and the Worcester Food Pantry, both critical food resources for many of the community organizations we support.

Building a Vibrant and Healthy Commonwealth

As a leading employer, Delta Dental is an active member of the Massachusetts business community. It is important that we work together to ensure the state’s business climate is strong, that there is economic opportunity, that we have a skilled and well-educated workforce, and that oral health is part of important conversations in the Commonwealth. You will find Delta Dental’s leaders active in Associated Industries of Massachusetts, the Boston Chamber of Commerce, the Massachusetts Taxpayers Association, the Massachusetts Association of Health Plans, the Massachusetts Health Council and the New England Council. We support the NAACP, Urban League, Operation A.B.L.E, the YMCA and YW Boston and provide employment to veterans and other individuals of all ages from economically, racially and occupationally diverse backgrounds.
