As a mission-focused organization, Delta Dental of Massachusetts is working hard to improve the oral health of all. We continue to monitor news and best practices related to the coronavirus and how we can best protect the safety of our employees, members and dental care providers while also ensuring that we continue to provide great dental coverage. As the leading dental plan in Massachusetts and the nation, we want to make sure that our members can access a robust and safe oral health system across our state today and into the future.

The COVID-19 crisis has put our families, communities and our oral health system to the test. We want to take a moment to thank all who are working so hard, often under challenging circumstances, to keep us safe and healthy. We also want to take a moment to remember those we have lost. They are more than a statistic on the nightly news. Too many are our parents, grandparents, friends and loved ones, our heroes and mentors. Many are health care providers and essential workers, including dental care professionals, who are risking their lives to care for us.

For those who have lost someone, know that you are in our thoughts.  For those on the frontlines, working hard to keep us safe and healthy with access to food, medicine and essential services, thank you.
 
   
Returning to the Dentist

Dentists have started to gradually resume normal operations. And for many people this can mean making up for non-emergency care that they put off due to concerns over COVID-19, 

Your decision to return to care is a personal one. A good place to start is to have a conversation with your dentist. They can tell you what changes you should expect when you return for care. Dental offices are taking extra precautions to keep their environment safe for you and themselves. Take a look at our What to Expect at the Dentist's Office fact sheet.

One of the ways we are supporting dentists is by paying them an additional $10 for each in-person patient visit completed. 		 
  These payments, which will take place from June 1 through Aug. 31, can be used by the dentist to cover a variety of operational costs relalted to safe patient care during COVID-19. In addition, DDMA provided a $2 million grant to the Massachusetts Dental Society's Recovery Fund to help support the critical personal protective equipment (PPE) needs of Massachusetts dentists. 

To help members return to the dentist, DDMA is providing each member of a fully insured group plan who completes a preventive cleaning between June 1 and August 31, 2020 with a free electric toothbrush. 

We have also simplified benefit plan designs in plans where we are able to be more flexible with the scheduling of preventive services to ensure that members who may have missed an appointment due to the pandemic can still complete two preventive visits this year.

Daily Tips on Staying Healthy

Face mask graphicGood oral health is important to all of us, and your health is our number one priority. We understand the power of prevention. Together, we can take extra precautions to keep people safe and healthy.

Take steps to prevent the spread of germs and viruses. 

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
 

The CDC always recommends:  

  • Maintain social distancing. 
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. 
  • Stay home when you are sick. 
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.  
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.  
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe that contains at least 60% alcohol. 
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early. 
  • Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider.
