    New President Takes the Reins at Delta Dental of Massachusetts

    Erik Montlack appointed as President of Massachusetts’ largest dental insurer as long-time President and CEO Dennis Leonard retires
     

    BOSTON – Delta Dental of Massachusetts (DDMA) has appointed Erik Montlack as its new President. Montlack previously served as Vice President of Sales and Client Services at DDMA and has been with the company for 12 years. He succeeds Dennis Leonard, who notified the board in 2022 of his plans to retire as President and CEO, after 22 years at the company. Leonard’s last day will be March 31, 2023.
     
    “I am so excited to have this opportunity to lead a dynamic company with an incredibly talented team,” said Montlack. “All of us at DDMA are extremely thankful for Dennis’ leadership for more than two decades. Dennis brought a trademark kindness, integrity and passion for oral health care to everything he did, and his dedication to DDMA and to the Massachusetts community is unmatched.”
     
    Montlack, who officially was appointed to the position in January 2023, takes the reins during an unprecedented time in the industry, as Massachusetts continues to grapple with the impact of the COVID pandemic, a staffing crisis exists across health care, and the state will be the first to implement a loss ratio for dental insurance following the 2022 ballot initiative.
     
    “After the ballot question, I think it’s really important that we come back together as an oral health community,” said Montlack. “We have a lot of challenges ahead — and we must all work together to solve them. That is my commitment and our commitment as an organization.”
     
    Montlack is a Massachusetts native who grew up in Franklin, and currently resides in Ipswich with his wife and three children.
