Delta Dental of Mass. Donates $50,000 for Dental Care for Veterans with an Assist from Boston’s Sam Hauser & the Boston Celtics Radio Network

At $25 per assist, the season-long campaign will support veterans facing housing insecurity and provide access to essential dental care.

Boston, MA (November 11, 2025): This NBA season, Delta Dental of Massachusetts (DDMA) is teaming up with Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) to launch Veterans Assists, a campaign supporting dental care for veterans facing housing insecurity.

Each time Boston’s forward Sam Hauser and his teammates make an assist, DDMA will donate $25 to the TUSDM Cares for Veterans program, culminating in a total donation of $50,000. DDMA is partnering with 98.5 The Sports Hub, the Boston Celtics Radio Network, which will keep track all season and announce the number of assists and the donation total after each game.

“When you think about everything our veterans have sacrificed, it really puts things in perspective,” said Sam Hauser. “I’m proud to play a small part in helping them get the care and support they need. Being part of something that gives back to them in a meaningful way is really special.

“This initiative reflects the power of collaboration—Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and Delta Dental coming together to make a meaningful impact,” said DDMA President Erik Montlack. “By supporting the Veterans Assists program, we’re not just funding dental care, we’re restoring dignity and health to veterans who’ve faced homelessness. It’s a privilege to be part of this mission.”

Each eligible veteran will receive up to $4,000 in comprehensive dental care through the TUSDM Cares for Veterans program, including dental exams, cleanings, x-rays, restorations, root canals, dentures, and implants. Care is provided by faculty-supervised students and professionals at the School of Dental Medicine’s Boston-based dental teaching clinics.

The TUSDM Cares for Veterans program was established in 2019 by Brent Mullen and Keith Nguyen, Iraq War combat veterans and then-dental students at the School of Dental Medicine. Created to fill a critical gap in access to oral health care, the program connects veterans with comprehensive, affordable treatment delivered by students and faculty. Since its launch, the program has helped hundreds of veterans regain their health and confidence through essential dental care.

“When you think about what a $50,000 gift can do and what kind of treatment can be provided with that funding, it’s a means of getting people back to living productive lives—and it’s awesome,” Mullen said. “Their overall self-confidence is going to change once they’ve been treated. It’s also going to provide an opportunity for students to work with more veterans and help others in their practices after they graduate.”

This season, DDMA is also partnering with the Boston Celtics Radio Network to honor the “MVV”, or “Most Valuable Veteran of the Game.” 98.5 The Sports Hub is inviting listeners to nominate veterans for the Most Valuable Veteran of the Game contest. Selected nominees will receive two tickets to an upcoming game at TD Garden and be honored on air.
