Delta Dental of Massachusetts honors four Oral Health Heroes in inagural award program
Oral Health Heroes recognizes the exceptional work of oral health professionals in Massachusetts, with the winners receiving a $5,000 award to donate to the non-profit of their choice
BOSTON — April 17, 2025 — Delta Dental of Massachusetts, (DDMA), the leading dental benefits administrator in the state, today announced the winners of its inaugural Oral Health Heroes program, which recognizes the exceptional work of dental professionals across Massachusetts.
The Oral Health Heroes program selects four individuals or organizations across the Commonwealth who were nominated by their peers for outstanding work advancing oral health access and improving our current ecosystem. The selected heroes each receive a $5,000 award to donate to the nonprofit of their choice.
“Massachusetts has some of the best dental providers in the country and we’re pleased to recognize their outstanding contributions to our community through the Oral Health Heroes awards,” said Erik Montlack, President of Delta Dental of Massachusetts. “Each of the four heroes selected has made a meaningful impact, from increasing access to dental care, to advancing innovative new technologies and approaches, and Delta Dental is proud to lift up and celebrate their work.”
The 2025 Oral Health Heroes:
Dmitry Burshteyn, Co-Founder and CEO, Progressive Dental Management & Smile Land Dental
What began as a partnership to improve the dental experience grew into a network of practices focused on inclusive, specialty care—especially for children who have had negative care experiences or face barriers to access. He has chosen to donate his $5,000 award to Boston Career Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to providing quality health career education, with a strong focus on dental assisting.

From embracing the newest technologies in dentistry to giving back to those with less access to care, Dr. Ford prioritizes quality dental care for all. To further this mission, she is donating her $5,000 award to Dental Lifeline Network, a nonprofit providing comprehensive dental care to the community’s most vulnerable residents.

Ellen Downing Gould, founder of Polished DNTL LLC and Brush Up Inc
Ellen Downing Gould is a licensed dental hygienist and founder of Polished DNTL LLC and Brush Up Inc. For over 24 years, Ellen has been a force in public health dentistry, delivering preventive care and learning experiences across Massachusetts.
“Being selected as an Oral Health Hero is an honor. This recognition is a testament to the years my team and I have devoted to the goal of preventing dental disease. Our work is focused in schools across Massachusetts and open to all students. We know that dental disease is preventable and our goal is to do just that, and at the same time provide a positive experience for all of our patients.”

Dr. La Spina is the past president of the Better Oral Health for Massachusetts Coalition and Associate Professor at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene. Through education, advocacy, and coalition-building, Lisa works to eliminate barriers to oral health.
